"Is now the right time?" It’s a question I hear often—from aspiring entrepreneurs, working parents, and close friends. Whether it’s starting a business, growing a family, or making a major life change, we tend to wait for that elusive moment when all the stars align.
Reflections on Timing
A recent conversation with a friend navigating decisions around marriage and motherhood took me back nearly 15 years. I remember asking myself the same question: Am I really ready to be a mom? I thought of another friend, balancing a demanding Wall Street job, a part-time MBA, and young children, who once told me, “I should’ve had kids earlier.”
Here’s what I’ve learned: there is no perfect time for life’s biggest milestones.
Today, I’m the proud mother of two—ages 12 and 8—and in January 2023, I gave life to my “third child”: Polygon Health Analytics.
Launching in Uncertain Times
When I left my corporate role at Merck, I did not feel an obvious downturn. In fact, I walked away with one of the most generous bonuses my colleagues could recall. Yet looking back, the life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors were beginning to change—and the turbulence has only grown.
As we move through 2025, we continue to face political and economic uncertainty that touches everything from federal funding to global pharma investments.
Has my business been affected? A bit—yes. (To those who’ve reached out with kind words and support: thank you.) But the most unexpected discovery has been my own resilience. I’ve weathered more than I imagined possible.
Lessons from the Journey
2025 began with some hard resets—new goals, new expectations, and open-hearted conversations with mentors and peers. Through it all, I’ve stayed grounded by something simple but powerful: optimism.
Entrepreneurship has sharpened my instincts and toughened my resolve. I’ve learned to embrace the chaos, stay focused, and, as Steve Jobs famously said, “stay hungry, stay foolish.”
This season of building Polygon Health Analytics—amidst ambiguity and disruption—will forever be one of the most formative chapters of my professional journey.
Looking Ahead
If you’re waiting for the "right time" to launch a business, change careers, or take a leap into the unknown, here’s the truth: perfect timing doesn’t exist.
What matters is readiness, flexibility, and unshakable belief in your vision.
I recently spoke about this journey on the Philly Tech Entrepreneurs podcast (thank you, Dave Schneider, for the invitation!). To every fellow founder and small business owner out there: keep going. Survive. Strive. Thrive. Especially when the timing feels less than perfect.
